7-year-old boy stabbed and set on fire adopted by the detective who responded to call

Uncertainty looms when law enforcement officers rush to the aid of those in desperate situations, never fully knowing what they will encounter.

In a twist of fate reminiscent of a storybook, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Detective Mike Blair found his life intertwined with that of a gravely wounded young boy. Suffering from multiple stab wounds and burn injuries, and barely clinging to life, the boy was a victim of an unspeakable act by his father who took the lives of his mother and sister.

Upon entering the crime-ridden home of 7-year-old Ronnie, Detective Blair discovered that the severely injured child had already been transported to a medical facility. His prognosis was bleak. His father’s violent actions had left him alone and fighting for survival.

Lonely and heartbroken, Ronnie’s ordeal deeply moved Detective Blair.

As Ronnie healed, Detective Blair’s visits became more frequent, with him bringing gifts from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to brighten Ronnie’s spirits. This nurturing created a profound bond, making Detective Blair the sole figure young Ronnie felt at peace with.

One heartfelt moment unfolded as Detective Blair was about to depart the hospital; Ronnie clutched his hand and requested his company for a movie. Originally planning to go out with his wife, Danyel Blair, that evening, Detective Blair couldn’t deny Ronnie’s simple ask. Danyel agreed readily to join her husband in visiting Ronnie instead.

Their time together that night marked a pivotal change in Ronnie’s life, as Danyel sensed Ronnie was meant to be part of their family. Despite already parenting five children, they saw it as the natural step to embrace Ronnie into their home.

Now, three years after the tragic circumstances, Ronnie has been officially adopted by Detective Blair, the first responder to his case.

“They’re wonderful people. They’re the best parents, and they really look after me. There’s no one better than them,” expressed Ronnie with heartfelt gratitude.

Ronnie’s father, Ronnie Oneal III, received a sentence of three consecutive life terms plus an additional 60 years for his crimes.
