Taylor Swift breaks Elvis Presley’s record on Billboard album chart

Taylor Swift has broken Elvis Presley’s record on Billboard’s album chart, the Guardian reports. The singer already holds the record for a solo artist with the most albums at No. 1 in the authoritative chart. Swift’s 1989 album (Taylor’s Version) hit the top spot on the U.S. album chart for the fifth time in the last week of 2023.

Swift’s total number of weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s album chart now stands at 68. So she overtook Elvis Presley, who spent 67 weeks in first place with 10 albums that topped the chart between 1956 and 2002.

The first album at Swift’s No. 1 was Fearless, who spent 11 weeks at the top of the 2008 album chart. and 2009. It followed Speak Now, which was No. 1 for six weeks in 2010-2011; Red (seven weeks, 2012 – 2013); 1989 (11 weeks, 2014 – 2015); Reputation (four weeks, 2017 – 2018); Lover (one week, 2019); Folklore (eight weeks, 2020 – 2021); Evermore (four weeks, 2020 – 2021); Fearless -Taylors Version (two weeks, 2021); Red -Taylor’s Version (two weeks, 2023); and 1989 – Taylor’s Version (five weeks, 2023 – 2024).

Swift holds the record for the most albums to debut consistently at No. 1. They are 13 in number – an achievement achieved thanks to her decision to quickly re-write and release all her albums after her former manager Scooter Brown acquired her old record label Big Machine Records. She is also the first live artist to have ranked five albums in the Top 10 at the same time – an achievement Prince only achieved since his death in 2016. In July, Swift also broke the record set by Barbra Streisand for the singer with the most No. 1 albums in history.

Despite breaking Elvis Presley’s record, Taylor Swift is still far from the Beatles. The legendary band’s albums spent 132 weeks at the top of Billboard’s album chart.
