The unwanted pit bull was tied to a tree, and three days later the rescued dog gave birth to 13 puppies
Pets are often discarded by their owners around the world, and not all choose to do it humanely.
Animal helpers highlight a sad truth: no breed, no matter how prestigious, is immune to abandonment and the lack of a loving home. This is a hard reality they witness daily.
At the year’s onset, Cynthia stumbled upon a heart-wrenching sight – a pedigreed pit bull terrier chained to a tree in an isolated area. In the USA, Pit Bulls abound due to their popularity, making them a frequent sight in shelters as well – the final destination of many forsaken pets.
There is a widespread fear associated with so-called ‘fighting breeds’ like the pit bull terrier; pedestrians often walk the other way, apprehensive about their aggressive reputation. However, the pit bull Cynthia discovered, who had been deprived of nourishment and hydration for so long, was far from hostile. Rather, she was frail, shown in her sorrowful eyes, and the fact that she could barely stand due to her advanced pregnancy. Calling her Blue, Cynthia coordinated with the nearest animal shelter to ensure she would receive proper care.
Blue was given her own space within the shelter’s vet clinic. Essentials like sustenance, fresh water, cozy blankets, and chew toys were brought in to help her recuperate and unwind. Just three days after her rescue, Blue began to give birth.
What followed was the emergence of 13 lovable mixed-breed puppies, a sudden but delightful addition to the shelter’s community, hence nicknamed “The Lucky 13.”
Under such tension, it’s not unusual for mother dogs to reject their newborns, denying them nutrition or sometimes even becoming aggressive toward them.
But, not Blue. As Cynthia observed, she instantly became a remarkably nurturing mother. Despite her weariness and the recent traumatic events, she took to regular feedings. She enveloped each of her 13 puppies in unwavering affection.
It did not take long before the shelter volunteers initiated the hunt for a forever home for the large canine clan. Fortune favored them as all the puppies found families to take them in. Blue, too, was swiftly welcomed into a home brimming with tenderness, where she could leave her distressing past behind.
