The Life and Career of Oscar Winning Actress, Sally Field

Renowned for her captivating performances, Sally Field is a multi-award-winning actress whose work in “Forrest Gump,” “Brothers and Sisters,” “Lincoln,” and “Steel Magnolias” has left a lasting impression on audiences.

At the age of 76, Sally Field’s journey began in 1965 with “Gidget,” and her career spans across television, film, and stage to this day.

In her revealing 2018 memoir, “In Pieces,” Field courageously shares her harrowing experiences with childhood sexual abuse, as well as her ongoing battles with depression, self-esteem, and isolation.

Born on November 6, 1946, in Pasadena, California, Sally Field was the daughter of actress Margaret Field (née Morlan) and salesman Richard Dryden Field. After her parents’ separation, her mother remarried Jock Mahoney, an actor and stuntman. Sally has a brother, Richard, and a half-sister, Princess O’Mahoney, both of whom are alive today.

REFLECTING ON HER PERSONAL LIFE

In 1968, Sally Field married Steven Craig and welcomed two sons, Peter and Eli, into the world. The marriage ended in 1975, and Field later wed Alan Greisman in 1984, with whom she had her son Samuel, before their union concluded in divorce in 1994. Field was romantically linked to Burt Reynolds from 1976 to 1980, a relationship that presented its own set of challenges and is explored candidly in her memoir.

Field recalls how Reynolds’ possessive nature led her to miss the Emmy awards event where she was honored for her portrayal in “Sybil.” His passing occurred just before her book was released. Reynolds had previously expressed in his 2015 memoir “But Enough About Me” that not making their relationship work was his greatest regret. Field, however, had not had contact with him for three decades before he passed away. She realized that his influence was detrimental to her well-being and that his later expression of regret seemed disingenuous and driven by a desire for something he had lost.

CELEBRATING SALLY FIELD NOW

Currently, Sally Field spends her days gaming with her grandchildren in a TV room adorned with her Oscars and Emmys. With no intention of retiring, audiences eagerly anticipate her upcoming works, including the release of “Spoiler Alert” and “80 for Brady” in 2023.

Steven Spielberg, a close friend and the director of “Lincoln,” praised her resilience and evolution as an actress. He commended her for challenging Hollywood typecasting and consistently pursuing diverse and compelling roles. Spielberg acknowledges Field’s triumph over the fluctuating entertainment industry and secures her an exceptional place in its history.
