Fans spot worrying detail in new photo of Martha Stewart, 82 – and everyone’s saying the same thing
Martha Stewart, a household name, enjoys a significant following around the globe.
However, her latest social media update from a trip to Greenland has sparked controversy, drawing criticism for being seemingly insensitive.
Earlier in the year, the 82-year-old icon received accolades for her bold Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition appearance in May. Yet, her latest Instagram post didn’t manage to garner the same level of enthusiasm.
On Tuesday, August 29, Stewart shared an image from aboard a cruise along Greenland’s eastern shores. Among a series of photos, Stewart is seen savoring a cocktail, accompanied by a caption:
“Wrapping up our initial zodiac cruise with @swanhelleniccruises into a stunning fjord on Greenland’s eastern coast. We scooped up a tiny iceberg to chill our drinks tonight.”
While Stewart’s intentions were likely innocuous, the post soon provoked a wave of criticism from followers who found her use of a “tiny iceberg” for drink cooling to be in poor taste.
It didn’t take long for her comment section to fill with critiques about her alluding to a tiny iceberg while “ice caps are melting.”
“Martha, the ice caps are vanishing; please don’t put them in your beverage”, voiced one Instagram user.
Others concurred: “While I usually adore Martha for her lavish lifestyle of exquisite gardens, dwellings, and fare, the sight of affluent individuals enjoying their glaciated drinks amidst our warming planet strikes a discordant note.”
“In an era where climate change enriches a select few, billionaires holiday amidst the thawing icebergs, harvesting them for their chilled libations. This reads like a passage out of a dystopian tale. Beyond belief, truly,” remarked another.
Someone else chimed in: “Here we are, facing global warming and disappearing ice caps, yet we still need glacial ice for drinks? This is out of touch. As a long-time admirer, witnessing all the lavishness while I struggle to afford groceries, I’ve had my fill.”
In May, Stewart made waves with her vibrant shoot for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover. The then-81-year-old also shared the intensive health regimen she adhered to in preparation.
“I refrained from carbs like bread or pasta for a couple of months,” Stewart mentioned in an interview on the Today show. “I doubled down on Pilates every second day – and I continue to because it’s incredibly beneficial. Beyond that, I live squarely by the principles of wholesome eating, regular exercise, and meticulous skincare.
At a keynote address in Las Vegas, Stewart reflected on the immediate reaction to her “genuine” cover appearance.
“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, making women of every age feel empowered, as if they could follow in my footsteps,” Stewart observed.
