The American Actors Guild has given surprises in his nominations
The “Barbiheimer” phenomenon also captured the nominations for the American Actors Guild Awards. Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan’s films each had four nominations. And while this was expected given the Golden Globe nominations, the acting guild also served up some surprises.
The first of these is the absence of “Callez Creatures” in the nominations for best cast. This is the most important category, as the Actors Guild does not give an award for best film. Giorgos Lantimos’s film won the grand prize at the Venice Film Festival, and a few days ago it won a Golden Globe for best comedy film, but the acting guild ignored it. In this category will compete “Barbie”, “Openheimer”, “The Killers of the Colorful Moon”, “American Literature” and The Color Purple.
The other surprise presented by the American Guild to the actors is the lack of Leonardo DiCaprio in the nominations for best actor in the lead. For his performance in “The Killers of the Colorful Moon,” he was nominated for a Golden Globe. When the first Oscar betting began, he was juicy as the favorite to win the prestigious statuette. However, the acting guild overlooked it and nominated Killian Murphy for “Openheimer,” Bradley Cooper for “Maestro,” Colman Domingo for “Rustin,” Paul Giamati for The Holdovers and Jeffrey Wright for “American Literature.” Competition in this category will be serious, as two of the nominees received a Golden Globe for a leading role – Killian Murphy for a leading role in a dramatic film, and Paul Giammati for a musical or comedy.
Actresses for a leading female role will compete Lily Gladstone for “The Killers of the Colorful Moon,” Carey Mulligan for “Maestro,” Emma Stone for “Calted Creatures,” Margot Robbie for “Barbie” and Annette Bening for Nyad. Here, too, the competition will be great because Lily Gladstone won a Golden Globe for leading female role in a drama film, and Emma Stone for a leading role in a comedy or musical.
Emily Blunt – “Openheimer,” Danielle Brooks – The Color Purple, Jody Foster – Nyad, and Da’Veen Joy Randolph – The Holdovers – will fight in the supporting role category. The surprise here is Penelope Cruz’s nomination for her starring in Ferrari, as the actress was not nominated for a Golden Globe, is also not referred to as an Oscar favourite. In men in the supporting role category, Robert De Niro was nominated for “The Killers of the Colorful Moon,” William Dafoe for “Calice Creatures,” Robert Downeyr Junior for “Oppenheimer,” Ryan Gosling for “Barbie” and Sterling Kling. Brown for “American Literature.”
Another surprise is that “Past Lives” and “May, December” – one of the films with many positive reviews in the past year, did not receive a single nomination.
Unlike the film categories, there are no surprises in the series. Both in the Golden Globe nominations, so here “Heirs” and “The Bear” lead in the respective categories. In addition to “Heirs” for best cast in a drama series, “The Crown,” “The Last Survivors,” “Morning Show” and “The Gold-Ephedy Age” were also nominated. In comedy series nominees besides “The Bear” are also “Barry”, “Ted Lasso”, “Murders in the building” and Abbot Elementary.
In the Best Actor’s category in a drama series, three actors from “Heirs” – Keiran Culkin, Matthew McFayden and Brian Cox are nominated. In addition to them, Pedro Pascal will also be fighting for the prize – “The Last Survivors”, and Billy Crudup – “Morning Show”. For the best performance in the men’s comedy series will compete Bill Hadder (“Barry”), Eben Moss-Bahrah and Jeremy Alan White (“The Bear”), as well as Jason Suchakis and Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”).
Jennifer Aniston – “Jurseword Debica” – Elizabeth Debbie – “The Crown,” Bella Ramsey – “The Last Survivors,” will be the contestant, by Keri Russell’s, and Sarah Snook’s “The Assengers.” For a female role in a comedy series, Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein – “The Wonderful Mrs. Maisel,” Quinta Branson – Abbott Elementary, Ayo Edebiri – “The Bear” and Hannah Waddingham – “Ted Lasso” – were nominated.
The Athlefts will be presented on February 24. Both “Golden Globes” and they are being closely watched because they also suggest who the big winners of the Oscars will be. Last year, Brendan Fraser grabbed the statuette for best male role in “The Whale” and immediately afterwards won an Oscar in the same category. “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” won in the best cast category, and Michelle Yeo and Ky Hee Kwan were honored as a leading female and male role, respectively. The actors subsequently also won an Oscar for their roles in “Everything, Everywhere, at Once,” and the production itself won in the best picture category.
