Everyone’s Thoughts And Prayers Are With Reba McEntire And Her Family
A heart-wrenching aviation calamity that deeply affected Reba McEntire and her circle of musicians marks its 32nd year of remembrance.
It was on the mournful day of March 16, 1991, that eight cherished associates of the famed country singer, consisting of her band members and crew, were taken too soon, leaving an indelible void in her life and the broader realm of music.
In remembrance, McEntire reached out on digital platforms to honor those who have left a considerable legacy in the world of tunes. Their final journey began in San Diego and was destined for Indiana, but disaster struck as their aircraft’s wing met an unyielding rock on Otay Mountain.
The group had gone ahead without Reba, who remained at the hotel to recuperate from being unwell, accompanied by her then-husband Narvel and their stylist.
Chris Austin, Paula Kaye Evans, Terry Jackson, Joey Cigainero, and their tour manager Jim Hammon were among those who perished.
“Their enduring love for music and dynamic presence onstage continues to guide and uplift us,” McEntire expressed in a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram, which featured a montage of the group performing, poignantly showcasing their unity and artistry.
Persistent in keeping their legacy vibrant, Reba annually brings their story to the forefront.
In a profound dialogue with Oprah Winfrey in 2012, McEntire opened up about the moments following the catastrophe.
She recounted the chilling exchange, detailing, “We were alerted, and Narvel went to consult with our pilot, who bore the grim tidings.
Returning to our hotel room late at night, Narvel broke the horrendous news of the plane’s fate.
I asked, ‘Are they all right?’ To which he responded, ‘I don’t think so.’ I persisted, ‘But you’re not certain?’ And with a heavy heart, he conceded, ‘I don’t think so.’”
As we pay homage to the remarkable souls who have cast an everlasting influence on Reba McEntire’s artistic journey and the tapestry of music, let us preserve the memory of their remarkable contributions.
