Skit from The Carol Burnett Show has an unexpected twist
In a cherished scene from “The Carol Burnett Show,” viewers were treated to a humorous act where Carol Burnett and Tim Conway portrayed a married couple revisiting their honeymoon suite in Mexico a decade later, only to become comically critical of its comforts.
Settling into bed for the night, Carol’s character, Tune, suddenly yell “Henry, Henry!” with eyes bulging out, terrified of an imagined slithering creature. Tim’s character, Henry, tries to calm her, suggesting it’s all in her head.
In an attempt to soothe Tune, Henry teases by gesturing towards her toes and saying, “It’s right there!” which sends her leaping up in terror, only for her to discover he was pulling her leg. Somewhat irritated, Tune settles back into the bed.
Without missing a beat, Tune shrieks once more, this time mistaking the dresser for another scare, as she finds herself perched atop it. Henry, befuddled, tries to locate the non-existent dresser but plays along, swinging at what he claims is a monster, only to reveal it’s a stick of deodorant. Pretending to solve the problem, Henry places the deodorant safely in a cup within arm’s reach.
The chaos continues as Carol’s Tune exclaims in horror that she shattered the glass, prompting the lights to flicker on. She humorously conjectures that the deodorant might harbor bitter feelings. In yet another amusing twist, she urges Henry not to shift an inch, insisting something rests on his nape. After he ventures outdoors, she cheekily locks him out, only to relent and let him back in moments later.
But the laughter doesn’t stop there; back in bed, Henry unwittingly sports a sizeable reptile on his back. The live audience can’t hold back their howls of laughter, which only amplifies as Carol finally spots the lizard and comically swoons away. The skit captivates the audience with its rollicking absurdity from the opening line to the final blackout.
